HYDE PARK, NY — Firefighters battled a large-scale structure fire at the Millennial Kingdom Family Church for more than 33 hours before clearing the scene.
The Hyde Park Fire Department was dispatched to 30 Mansion Drive on Thursday at approximately 8:12 a.m.
All units cleared the scene on Friday at approximately 5:00 p.m.
The fire was caused by a space heater that ignited, combined with open doors that allowed the fire to spread rapidly throughout the structure, according to the fire department.
Crews encountered significant fire conditions upon arrival requiring a prolonged and coordinated response.
Supplying water to the scene proved challenging due to hydrant locations.
Firefighters laid approximately 1,300 feet of hose to one hydrant and an additional 1,000 feet to a secondary hydrant to maintain adequate water flow.
Ten adults and one child were displaced as a result of the fire.
All occupants safely escaped, and there were no civilian injuries reported.
No firefighter injuries occurred despite below-freezing temperatures and icy conditions.
Thirteen fire departments assisted at the scene, including the Fairview Fire Department, City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department, Arlington Fire Department, Roosevelt Fire Department, Pleasant Valley Fire Department, Rhinebeck Fire Department, New Hackensack Fire Department, New Hamburg Fire Department, East Fishkill Fire Department, Highland Fire Department, Hillside Fire Department, Millbrook Fire Department and Beekman Fire Department.
East Clinton Volunteer Fire Department and Roosevelt Fire District provided station coverage.
Empress EMS, Hyde Park Police, the Dutchess County Sheriff drone unit and multiple other agencies assisted at the scene.
