NEW BEDFORD, MA — Police have seized the vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run that killed a woman shortly after midnight on New Year’s Eve.
Nicolasa Ventura Colaj died in the incident.
New Bedford police, Massachusetts State Police and the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office made the breakthrough Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators identified and located the vehicle involved in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
“Our thoughts are with the family. This was a promising life cut short unnecessarily,” said Chief Jason Thody.
Thody commended the work of detectives and the collaboration between agencies.
“Their expeditious work to bring justice to Nicolasa and her family exemplifies the compassion and dedication of all agencies involved,” he said.
