CAMBRIDGE, MA — A Cambridge man has been arrested in connection with a Christmas Day shooting that left two people injured, including himself.
Nelson Portillo, 34, of Cambridge, faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building and carrying a loaded firearm without a license.
Cambridge police were dispatched to a Howard Street residence at approximately 3:20 a.m. on Dec. 25 following a 911 call reporting a fight.
Officers found Portillo and another individual suffering from gunshot wounds.
Officers provided life-saving treatment until Cambridge Fire and EMS arrived, and both individuals were transported to local hospitals.
Both have since been treated and released.
Investigators from the Cambridge Police Department, Massachusetts State Police and Middlesex District Attorney’s Office determined that Portillo allegedly discharged a firearm inside the residence during a gathering, striking himself and another person.
