Man arrested on child exploitation charges in Painted Post

PAINTED POST, NY — New York State Police arrested a California man following a child exploitation investigation.

Jacob A. Hanes, 24, of Palm Springs, California, was charged with promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child, a class D felony, criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, a class D felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.

The investigation determined that Hanes communicated electronically with a juvenile and requested sexually explicit images and videos while knowing the victim was under the age of 17.

Investigators also determined that Hanes was in possession of a forged New York State identification card at the time of his arrest.

Hanes was located and taken into custody in Buffalo while visiting the area.

He is scheduled to be transported to the Steuben County Jail for centralized arraignment.
