Man arrested after ax assault in Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY, MA — A 22-year-old man was arrested following an assault involving an ax on Dec. 30.

At approximately 8:54 a.m., Officer Chysna was on routine patrol in a marked cruiser in the area of the 200 block of South Quinsigamond Avenue when he observed a disturbance in the roadway involving several individuals.

Officer Chysna observed a black 2007 Toyota Corolla accelerate away from the scene at a high rate of speed.

He pursued the vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop on South Quinsigamond Avenue at the intersection of Oak Street.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver stated that he had just been involved in a fight.

Shortly thereafter, several individuals arrived at the stop location and informed Officer Chysna that the driver had gone to their residence, where an altercation occurred.

During the incident, the suspect allegedly retrieved an ax from his vehicle and struck a juvenile male.

The suspect was taken into custody at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation; however, it is believed that the parties involved were known to one another.

Felipe Silva Marcio Linhares, 22, of Shrewsbury, was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (ax) and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot).
