Oil truck overturns in Somers

SOMERS, NY — A home heating oil truck overturned on Primrose Drive at Lalli Drive on Friday afternoon.

The Somers Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at 2:51 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the oil truck on its roof.

Approximately 15 gallons of fuel spilled from the vehicle.

Fire units deployed absorbent booms and pads to contain the spill and prevent oil from entering nearby storm drains.

Firefighters operated at the scene for approximately three hours mitigating hazards.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Department of Environmental Protection were notified and responded to the scene.

The scene was turned over to New York State Police.

The roadway remained closed for approximately nine hours while cleanup crews removed spilled oil and pumped affected sewer drains.

Croton Falls Fire Department and Yorktown Heights Fire Department provided standby coverage for additional calls in the Somers district during the incident.

Mutual aid was provided by Battalion 13, Croton Falls Fire Department, Yorktown Fire Department and the Westchester HAZMAT Team.
