ELLENVILLE, NY — Police responded to a report of a barricaded subject armed with a shotgun at about 2 p.m. Sunday.

Officers determined the subject was suffering from a mental health crisis.

The police chief requested crisis negotiators from the Ulster County Sheriff Department to respond to the scene.

After a few hours, the negotiator convinced the subject to surrender without incident.

He was taken into custody and transferred to Health Alliance Hospital for further treatment.

Roads were shut down and residents were directed to shelter in place out of an abundance of caution because of the residential neighborhood.

Ellenville Police were assisted by the Ulster County Sheriff Department Uniform and Drone operators, Ulster County Emergency Response Team, New York State Police Uniform, BCI, and Drone Unit, Ellenville Rescue Squad, Ellenville Fire Department, and Ellenville Street Department.

No injuries were reported to first responders or civilians.
