Sheriff’s office warns of bail scam in Delaware County

DELHI, NY — The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam targeting families of incarcerated individuals.

Unknown callers are contacting relatives and claiming to be employees of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office or Corrections Division, according to authorities.

The scammers are requesting financial information from the relatives to bail out incarcerated individuals.

The sheriff’s office said it will never personally contact families of incarcerated individuals requesting bail on their behalf.

Incarcerated individuals are provided the opportunity to make contact on their own behalf, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities are advising residents who receive such calls to not provide any information and to hang up.
