FALL RIVER, MA — A man faces charges after allegedly stabbing a homeowner multiple times during an uninvited entry into a residence on Dec. 27.
Gahetan Jean-Louis, 28, of Fall River, entered a home in the 1000 block of Laurel Street that evening, according to Fall River Police.
When the homeowner confronted Jean-Louis and asked if he was in the wrong house or needed help, Jean-Louis attacked him with a knife, police said.
The victim was stabbed multiple times as family members witnessed the assault, police said.
Family members attempted to intervene and briefly restrained Jean-Louis before he fled the residence, according to police.
Officers located a black folding pocket knife on the stairs and secured it as evidence.
Police quickly located and detained Jean-Louis nearby and took him into custody without further incident.
The victim was transported to a trauma center for non-life threatening injuries.
Mental health factors are being evaluated as part of the investigation, police said.
Jean-Louis was charged with home invasion and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
