Fatal hit-and-run investigated in Union City

UNION CITY, NJ — Authorities are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that left an elderly woman dead Saturday evening.

At approximately 5:40 p.m., the Union City Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck in the area of 30th Street and Palisades Avenue.

Responding officers located a female victim with serious injuries.

The victim was later identified as Fabiola Bedoya, 83, of Union City.

The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene.

Bedoya was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead just after 6:15 p.m.

During the initial investigation, the vehicle suspected of being involved in the collision was located and a person of interest was identified.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Union City Police Department are investigating the incident.
