MONTPELIER, VT — A former executive director is accused of embezzling more than $71,000 from a local economic development organization.
Melissa Bounty, 42, of Waitsfield, was cited to appear in Washington County Superior Court Criminal Division on Jan. 15, 2026 at 8:30 a.m.
The Montpelier Police Department received a report on July 19 regarding the misappropriation of company funds.
The Central Vermont Economic Development Corporation reported that Bounty, who served as the organization’s executive director, had used company funds for personal gain.
An investigation determined that Bounty embezzled approximately $71,151.73 from the organization during her tenure as executive director from 2022 to 2025.
