WATERBURY, CT — A 47-year-old man was arrested Dec. 17 after officers found him trespassing in an East Main Street apartment building and discovered he was carrying crack cocaine, police said.

Officers assigned to the Crime Prevention Unit were patrolling the area of 770 East Main St. due to numerous complaints related to quality-of-life issues, including trespassing, individuals loitering in hallways and suspected drug activity involving non-residents.

While on scene, officers made contact with Manuel Lopez-Diaz, 47, of Waterbury, who was determined not to be a tenant of the building.

During the investigation, Lopez-Diaz interfered with officers and provided false identifying information, police said.

Officers discovered Lopez-Diaz had an active warrant out of Bridgeport for violation of probation.

Police seized crack cocaine and $130 in U.S. currency.

Lopez-Diaz was charged with criminal trespass, interfering with an officer and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.

He was also arrested on the outstanding warrant.
