VERONA, NY — One person died Monday evening following a house fire on Main Street in the Town of Verona, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Robert M. Maciol said personnel were dispatched at approximately 6:20 p.m. for reports of a structure fire at 5619 Main Street.
Deputies arrived to find the residence fully involved with reports of an individual still inside.
After the fire was extinguished, an individual was found deceased inside the residence.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending positive identification by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office and notification of next of kin.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Verona, Durhamville, New London, Sylvan Beach, Oneida Castle, North Bay, Vienna, Westmoreland, Vernon, Utica, Wampsville, Canastota, and Lincoln fire departments, along with New York State Fire, Vineall Ambulance, and the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and Main Street in Durhamville remains closed to civilian traffic.
