STOWE, VT — Stowe Fire Rescue responded to a fire alarm and reports of smoke at First Chair Alpine Company, an apparel retail store on Hourglass Drive, at 5:07 p.m. on Dec. 24.
Upon arrival, crews found light smoke originating from the basement.
An investigation revealed a small fire in a basement storage area that had been mostly suppressed by the building’s automatic sprinkler system before firefighters arrived.
Fire Rescue personnel completed extinguishment, confirmed the fire was fully contained, and ventilated the building.
The damage was limited due to the proper activation of the sprinkler system.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation but appears to be related to improper storage.
