NEW BEDFORD, MA — Two people were arrested after police seized a firearm and drugs in the South End on Monday.
Det. Stephanie Connolly received information that Julio Camacho, 39, of New Bedford, was illegally in possession of a firearm.
On Dec. 22, Det. Connolly was conducting surveillance when she observed Camacho and another individual, identified as Christina Duarte, 44, of New Bedford, entering a vehicle.
In collaboration with the Massachusetts State Police, a takedown was initiated, and both Camacho and Duarte were taken into custody.
Camacho was found to have a crack pipe, fentanyl, 28 grams of cocaine, and $126, which was seized as drug proceeds.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located an untraceable Poly80 firearm on the front passenger side.
Camacho has a lengthy criminal history, with 105 adult entries, including multiple guilty findings for violent and drug-related offenses.
He also had multiple outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest.
Camacho was charged with carrying a firearm without a license, trafficking 18 grams or more of cocaine, possession to distribute a class A drug, possession to distribute a class B drug, possession of an untraceable firearm, and traffic offenses.
Duarte was charged with carrying an untraceable firearm without a license.
