Man arrested on child sex charge in North Haven

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A 19-year-old man has been arrested after police say he befriended a juvenile through an online gaming platform and engaged in sexual activity with the minor.

Phillip Romero-Cruz, of New London, was taken into custody on Dec. 24 and charged with Risk of Injury to a Minor.

North Haven patrol officers responded to a residence on Oct. 2 following a report that an unknown adult male had befriended a juvenile through an online gaming platform and subsequently engaged in sexual activity with the minor after misrepresenting his age.

North Haven detectives were assigned to investigate the incident.

Through multiple search warrants, interviews, and collaboration with the Yale Child Study Center, detectives identified Romero-Cruz as the suspect.

An arrest warrant was prepared and approved.
