BOSTON, MA — A Boston man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred in Jamaica Plain in October.

Jose Peguero, 36, of Boston, was taken into custody Thursday by the Boston Police Fugitive Unit.

The crash occurred on the evening of Oct. 5 at approximately 9:38 p.m. in the area of 101 South Huntington Avenue.

Officers assigned to District E-13 responded to a report of two pedestrians struck by a motor vehicle.

One pedestrian suffered fatal injuries, and a second sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle involved fled the scene.

The Boston Police Department Fatal Collision Investigative Team conducted an investigation that led to the identification of the vehicle as a Chevrolet TrailBlazer registered to Peguero.

Video evidence showed the vehicle traveling outside of designated travel lanes, entering opposing lanes of traffic, and striking two pedestrians in a marked crosswalk before briefly stopping and fleeing the scene.

The vehicle was later located and seized by investigators.

Further investigation confirmed Peguero’s movements following the crash and placed him in control of the vehicle before and after the incident.

Investigators also determined that Peguero made no attempt to report the collision or recover the seized vehicle.

Peguero is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court on charges of motor vehicle homicide, reckless; leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision after causing personal injury or death; reckless operation of a motor vehicle; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; marked lanes violation; and marked crosswalk violation.
