Juvenile cited after crash in Hartland

HARTLAND, VT — A 17-year-old was cited for gross negligent operation and attempting to elude after crashing through a barn following a high-speed chase on Dec. 11.

Deputy Buchanan attempted to stop a vehicle traveling 60 mph in a 35 mph zone on Route 5 North near the post office at approximately 4:23 p.m.

The vehicle accelerated after the driver saw Deputy Buchanan.

Deputy Buchanan activated his emergency lights and siren.

The vehicle passed several cars near Whites’ Dairy before Deputy Buchanan lost sight of it.

The vehicle was later found crashed through a barn in the area of 226 Route 5 North.

The juvenile operator, of Hartland, suffered minor injuries and was transported by the Windsor Fire Department to Mount Ascutney Hospital.

The juvenile was turned over to the custody of their parents.

The Windsor County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Windsor Police, Windsor Fire, Hartland Fire and Legendary Towing.
