WILMINGTON, MA — A 70-year-old Wilmington school bus driver is being summonsed to court on charges of inappropriately touching a child on his bus route.

The Wilmington Police Department was notified Dec. 8 of potentially inappropriate social media activity involving a bus driver in Wilmington.

The department began an investigation that was ongoing Dec. 10 and Dec. 11 when additional parents contacted police with more allegations regarding the bus driver.

NRT Bus, the third-party vendor that provides transportation services to Wilmington Public Schools, was notified and suspended the bus driver from his route.

On Dec. 11, one parent who contacted Wilmington Police reported the bus driver allegedly touched their child inappropriately.

A subsequent investigation that included review of video surveillance footage from the school bus led investigators to determine the bus driver allegedly touched a child inappropriately.

Wilmington Police are seeking to charge the bus driver with assault and battery and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

The defendant is not being identified at this time since he faces a criminal summons instead of arrest.

He will be identified at a later time if a criminal arraignment is scheduled.

The case will be heard in Woburn District Court.
