Juvenile charged in fatal shooting in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A 17-year-old male has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on Friday, Dec. 12.

The juvenile is charged with aggravated manslaughter, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and tampering with physical evidence.

He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Shortly after 5:10 p.m. on Dec. 12, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of an injured male inside an apartment on Rose Avenue.

Responding officers located a male juvenile, later identified as Al-Jahmir Curry, 16, of Pennsylvania, with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body.

He was pronounced deceased just before 5:30 p.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the upper body and the manner of death to be homicide.

Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello credited the Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department with the investigation and arrest.
