MERIDEN, CT — A 28-year-old man was arrested on multiple charges after allegedly threatening a woman with what she believed was a firearm and stealing her cellphone following an argument at a restaurant.

Michael Hunter, of Meriden, was taken into custody without incident in the area of West Main Street and Colony Street on Dec. 17.

A 24-year-old woman reported to police that she and Hunter were seated together at a Miller Street restaurant when Hunter left the table to use the restroom.

During his absence, the woman placed a phone call to her ex-boyfriend.

When Hunter returned, he stated that he knew she was speaking with her ex-boyfriend, and an argument ensued after she said she was speaking with her mother.

After leaving the restaurant, Hunter forcibly grabbed the woman’s cellphone and refused to return it, police said.

As the argument continued while they walked along Pratt Street, Hunter placed an object against the woman’s head.

The woman could not see the object but believed it to be a firearm based on comments made by witnesses at the scene.

Officers conducted a records check and determined that Hunter had two active arrest warrants out of Meriden and two active paperless re-arrest warrants out of New Haven.

During a search incident to arrest, officers recovered a loaded Glock handgun from Hunter’s jacket and a folding pocketknife.

Officers also recovered the woman’s cellphone.

Hunter was also in possession of an iPad and multiple additional cellphones at the time of his arrest.

Hunter told police he found the handgun on the ground and that he attempted to return the woman’s cellphone by going to her residence but she was not present.

The woman later returned to her residence and discovered that someone had entered her bedroom through a window.

Her iPad and iPhone Pro Max were missing.

When the woman checked the devices’ locations online, both were shown to be located at 50 West Main St., the Meriden Police Department.

The items were confirmed to be in Hunter’s possession at the time of his arrest.

Hunter was processed and charged with domestic threatening, robbery and weapons violations.
