KILLINGTON, VT — A Pittsfield man was arrested on a DUI charge following a single-vehicle crash on Dec. 5.
Matthew Simpson, 28, of Pittsfield was traveling west on U.S. Route 4 when he struck ice while traveling above the posted speed limit, causing his vehicle to leave the road and come to rest in a ditch off the north shoulder near Winterberry Road, according to Killington Police.
Simpson sustained a superficial hand injury that was treated by medical personnel at the scene but declined transport via ambulance.
Police detected signs of impairment while speaking with Simpson, who participated in sobriety exercises.
Simpson was arrested for DUI at the conclusion of sobriety testing.
During processing, Simpson provided an evidentiary breath sample with a result of 0.158%.
The legal limit in Vermont is 0.08%.
Simpson was released to a sober party with a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Rutland Criminal Division on Dec. 22 at 12:30 p.m.
Killington Fire and Rescue Services and Regional Ambulance Service also responded to the scene.
