Two men arrested on burglary charges in Stillwater

STILLWATER, NY — The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary call Monday at 6:50 p.m. on Brickyard Road.

Investigation into the call led to the arrest of Joseph R. Briggs, 43, of Johnsonville, and Michael D. Briggs Sr., 49, of Buskirk.

Joseph Briggs was charged with burglary in the 2nd degree (class C felony), conspiracy in the 4th degree (class E felony), possession of burglar’s tools and petit larceny (class A misdemeanors).

He is accused of knowingly entering and remaining unlawfully in a dwelling with intent to commit a crime therein and of agreeing with another person to engage in conduct constituting a class C felony.

Joseph Briggs is also charged with possessing a tool commonly used for facilitating offenses involving forcible entry into premises and stealing property from a dwelling.

Michael Briggs Sr. was charged with burglary in the 2nd degree (class C felony), criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree (class D felony) and conspiracy in the 4th degree (class E felony).

He is accused of acting in concert to knowingly enter and remain unlawfully in a dwelling with intent to commit a crime therein and of agreeing with another person to engage in conduct constituting a class C felony.

In addition, Michael Briggs Sr. was charged with possessing a firearm having previously been convicted of a crime.

The pair are alleged to have forced entry into a residence and reportedly communicated by two-way radio during the commission of the burglary.

Michael Briggs Sr. was apprehended after a Sheriff’s deputy located his vehicle from a description provided by an off duty deputy and stopped it on Halfway House Road.

Joseph Briggs was arrested shortly afterwards when he called Michael Briggs Sr. on the radio to be picked up from a bike path off Halfway House Road.

Joseph Briggs and Michael Briggs Sr. were both arraigned before the Honorable Edward Richardson in the Stillwater Town Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail pending further proceedings.
