Man charged with attempted assault on deputy in Hornellsville

HORNELLSVILLE, NY — A man is facing felony charges after allegedly attempting to stab a deputy during an arrest.

Adrian J. Palmer, 24, of Hornell, was arrested Dec. 12 following a shoplifting complaint at a retail store, according to Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard.

Deputies responded to Palmer’s residence after a complainant identified him as the suspect in the shoplifting incident.

Palmer allegedly confirmed the larceny when deputies arrived at his home.

As deputies attempted to place Palmer in custody, he allegedly physically resisted arrest and produced a knife.

Palmer allegedly attempted to stab one of the deputies in the face.

Deputies disarmed Palmer and took him into custody.

Palmer was charged with attempted assault in the first degree, a class C felony; menacing a police officer, a class D felony; criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree; petit larceny; and resisting arrest.

He was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Court and held in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.
