PAWLING, NY — A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a homicide investigation that began on Dec. 7 involving the death of a 66-year-old Danbury, Connecticut man.
Santos Vasquez Ramirez, of Pawling, was arrested at approximately 6:50 p.m. on Dec. 12 outside his residence in the Town of Pawling, according to Putnam County Sheriff Brian Hess.
The arrest follows an investigation into the death of Aurelio Zhunio-Orbez, 66, of Danbury, Connecticut.
The investigation was conducted by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigations and involved a review of video surveillance, forensic evidence and information developed through coordinated efforts with partner agencies.
Forensic evidence, including blood and DNA, was recovered and submitted for analysis, with testing ongoing.
Vasquez Ramirez provided a confession to the crimes during questioning with investigators following his arrest, according to the sheriff’s office.
Vasquez Ramirez has been charged with murder in the second degree, a Class A felony, and robbery in the first degree, a Class B felony.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court.
The investigation involved assistance from the Westchester County Police Department, the Real Time Crime Center, the Putnam County District Attorney’s Office, Danbury Police, MTA Police, DEP Police and multiple surrounding law enforcement agencies.
