PORTLAND, ME — Police discovered human remains inside a tent at the Fore River Sanctuary off Rand Road on Dec. 12.
Officers responded to a report of possible human remains at approximately 12:27 p.m. and found a camping tent containing the remains, which appeared to have been there for a significant amount of time.
The death does not appear suspicious at this time, according to police.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
Police are working to identify the deceased.
