LOCKE, NY — A 25-year-old man was arrested on drunken driving charges following a motor vehicle accident on Dec. 7.
Gage M. Benson, of Niles, was taken into custody at approximately 6:31 p.m. after deputies responded to a crash in the area of 1215 State Route 38, according to Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck.
Benson called 911 reporting he had struck a deer and needed an accident report, authorities said.
During the investigation, deputies determined Benson was intoxicated and arrested him at 7:13 p.m., Schenck said.
Benson was transported to the Public Safety Building, where he provided a chemical breath sample reading of .17%, according to the sheriff’s office.
He was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or higher, no New York state inspection and open container, authorities said.
Benson was issued uniform traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in Locke Town Court on Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.
