SPENCER, MA — A 49-year-old man was arrested following a motor vehicle stop on Oct. 24 as part of a months-long narcotics investigation.

Members of the Western Worcester County Major Crimes and Narcotics Task Force were conducting surveillance when investigators observed a male enter the rear seat of a vehicle involved in suspected drug activity, according to the Spencer Police Department.

The male was later seen engaging in behavior consistent with drug transactions, police said.

The vehicle was stopped in Spencer a short time later.

During the stop, the male made movements consistent with attempting to conceal items within his reach, police said.

Officers searched the area where the male had been seated and located two large plastic bags hidden under the rear seat, according to police.

One bag contained a quantity of suspected cocaine and the second contained a quantity of suspected fentanyl, police said.

The substances were transported to the Spencer Police Department and weighed, resulting in approximately 23 grams of suspected cocaine and 13 grams of suspected fentanyl.

James Woodbury, 49, of Spencer, was arrested and charged with trafficking Class B drug, to wit: cocaine (18–36 grams) and trafficking Class A drug, to wit: fentanyl (over 10 grams).
