Man arrested on drug, firearm charges in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA — A Springfield man faces multiple charges after police seized an illegal firearm and narcotics during an arrest Thursday.

Jose Lopez-Santos, 39, of Springfield, was arrested at approximately 4:45 p.m. by members of the Springfield Police Neighborhood Stabilization Bureau under the direction of Sergeant Runuel Bibby.

Between 4:20 p.m. and 4:40 p.m., officers observed Lopez-Santos conduct several suspected drug deals on the 600 block of State Street.

Officers stopped and detained Lopez-Santos near the intersection of State Street and Thompson Street.

Officers recovered approximately 25 snap-caps of cocaine, 18 snap-caps of crack-cocaine and 30 bags of heroin on him as well as $240 in cash.

During a search of his backpack, officers seized a loaded illegal firearm that was reported stolen out of Holyoke.

Lopez-Santos is charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, firearm violation with three prior violent/drug crimes, receiving stolen property less than $1,200, possession with the intent to distribute a Class A drug – subsequent offense (heroin), possession with the intent to distribute a Class B drug – subsequent offense (cocaine), and possession with the intent to distribute a Class B drug – subsequent offense (crack-cocaine).
