JOHNSTOWN, NY — State Police arrested a high school teacher Dec. 11 on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child.
Scott M. Jeffers, 42, of Johnstown, surrendered himself to State Police in Fonda, where he was arrested and processed.
State Police were contacted Oct. 17 by the superintendent of the Greater Johnstown School District reporting allegations of inappropriate communications between Jeffers and students.
The investigation determined Jeffers, who is employed as a teacher at the high school, allegedly communicated with a student under the age of 17 via social media, text messages, voice calls and in person.
In addition to teaching at the school, Jeffers has also coached numerous athletic teams, which provided him additional access to the victim.
The communications were reportedly unrelated to his role as a teacher or athletic coach and were at times sexual in nature and discussed drug use and physical violence.
Jeffers was arraigned at Johnstown City Court and released on his own recognizance.
State Police are asking anyone with additional information concerning Jeffers’ criminal activity or who believes they may be a victim of his crimes to contact State Police at 518-457-6811 or email [email protected].
