Man arrested on weapons charges in Town of Wallkill

TOWN OF WALLKILL, NY — A 70-year-old man was arrested Thursday after allegedly firing shots from a rifle during a dispute with a health care worker.

Officers Ganesh Bhagwandeen and Isaac Vasquez responded to a report of shots fired at 213 Kings Road at approximately 1:36 p.m. Dec. 4.

Upon arrival, officers determined that several shots were fired from a rifle with the intent to threaten the victim during a dispute.

The Detective Bureau conducted a search for firearms at the defendant’s residence under an Extreme Risk Protection Order.

The search led to the recovery of 13 rifles and ammunition.

John Cieslewitz, of Town of Wallkill, was arrested and charged with menacing second degree, reckless endangerment second degree, criminal possession of a firearm fourth degree and discharge a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.

Cieslewitz was processed and released until his next scheduled court appearance on Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. before Judge Patrick Owen in Town of Wallkill Court.

He is also scheduled for a court appearance on Dec. 11 at 11 a.m. at Orange County Supreme Court for an Extreme Risk Protection Order hearing.
