SPENCER, MA — A 49-year-old man was arrested following a narcotics investigation and motor vehicle stop on Oct. 24.

Members of the Western Worcester County Major Crimes and Narcotics Task Force were conducting surveillance related to a months-long narcotics investigation when investigators observed a male enter the rear seat of a vehicle involved in suspected drug activity.

The male was later seen engaging in behavior consistent with drug transactions, according to the Spencer Police Department.

The vehicle was stopped in Spencer a short time later.

During the stop, the male made movements consistent with attempting to conceal items within his reach.

Officers searched the area where the male had been seated and located two large plastic bags hidden under the rear seat—one containing a quantity of suspected cocaine and the second containing a quantity of suspected fentanyl.

The substances were transported to the Spencer Police Department and weighed, resulting in approximately 23 grams of suspected cocaine and 13 grams of suspected fentanyl.

James Woodbury, 49, of Spencer, was placed under arrest and charged with trafficking Class B drug, to wit: cocaine (18–36 grams) and trafficking Class A drug, to wit: fentanyl (over 10 grams).
