Two arrested after armed home invasion in Dorchester

BOSTON, MA — Two men were arrested Wednesday following an armed home invasion on Bentham Road in Dorchester.

Michael Collins, 53, of Boston, and Rashard Brown, 34, of Dorchester, face multiple firearm and drug-related charges in connection with the incident.

Officers assigned to District C-11 responded to 18 Bentham Road at about 6:15 p.m. for a report of a breaking and entering in progress.

Boston Police Operations informed officers that the suspects were inside the address and a firearm had been seen.

Officers established a perimeter around the building upon arrival to secure all exits.

Officers knocked and announced their presence at the front door multiple times without receiving an answer.

Officers at the rear of the building observed two males inside.

Officers converged on the suspects and placed one suspect into handcuffs.

That suspect had multiple black zip ties inside his jacket.

The second suspect jumped out of a bedroom window and fled toward Mount Ida Road.

A foot chase ensued and the suspect was quickly taken into custody.

Officers conducted a search of the suspect’s flight path and recovered a Taurus 9mm pistol with one round in the chamber, a discarded magazine loaded with eleven rounds, gold-colored bracelets, and fourteen plastic bags of fentanyl.

The drugs were later determined to be approximately thirty-nine grams.

Officers were advised that the suspects pointed a firearm at the victim and stole an undisclosed amount of money and jewelry.

District detectives responded to process the scene.

A vehicle belonging to the suspects was located in the area and was towed from the scene.

The vehicle and apartment were secured by detectives pending search warrants.

Both suspects are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

Collins faces charges of home invasion, armed assault to rob, threat to commit a crime, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, trafficking of Class A, malicious destruction of property under $1,200, firearm violation with three prior violent/drug crimes, and trespass.

Brown faces charges of home invasion, armed assault to rob, threat to commit a crime, trespass, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity firearm, and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
