Firefighters battle house fire in Middlesex

MIDDLESEX, NJ — Emergency crews responded to a residential structure fire on Grove Avenue on Wednesday evening.

Officers from the Middlesex Borough Police Department and firefighters from the Middlesex Fire Department were dispatched to the scene at 5:03 p.m.

Sgt. Mark Melchiorre, Officer Marc Arancio and Officer Joshua Pham ensured all occupants had been evacuated from the building as well as surrounding residences.

The Middlesex Fire Department controlled the fire within 45 minutes while battling heavy smoke and flames.

Firefighters rescued a dog found inside the residence.

Mutual aid fire companies from Dunellen, Bridgewater, Piscataway, Bound Brook and Somerset assisted at the fire scene and associated cover assignments.

Emergency Medical Services from Bound Brook, Rutgers and South Plainfield provided rehab services to firefighters.

One resident and one firefighter were transported to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The Middlesex County Bureau of the Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

The fire is not believed to be suspicious.
