GREENE COUNTY, NY — A three-vehicle collision on State Route 9W near Leeds-Athens Road left one person dead and sent multiple others to the hospital Tuesday afternoon.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at approximately 4:45 p.m.
A 2006 Toyota Sienna operated by Darin Lucido, 57, of Cairo, was traveling southbound when it collided with a northbound 2018 Ford Explorer.
A third vehicle, a 2019 GMC Acadia traveling northbound, was unable to avoid the collision and crossed between the impacted vehicles, sustaining damage.
Lucido was pronounced dead at the scene.
The occupants of the Ford Explorer were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
The occupants of the GMC Acadia were treated by EMS at the scene.
A LifeNet Medical Transport Helicopter responded to the scene but was not utilized.
State Route 9W was closed for approximately five hours.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police, Catskill Ambulance, Coxsackie Ambulance, Greene County Paramedics, West Athens Fire, Athens Fire, Greene County Emergency Services Fire and EMS Coordinators, and Greene County Emergency Dispatchers.
