Woman critically injured in apartment fire in Rome

ROME, NY — A woman suffered severe burn injuries and was listed in critical condition following an apartment fire Tuesday on Rome Oriskany Road.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fire at 7108 Rome Oriskany Road at the Countryside Apartments.

The structure was fully involved when deputies arrived at the scene.

Deputies and New York State Police immediately began locating residents who needed assistance exiting the apartment complex.

An adult female with severe burn injuries was found during the evacuation.

The woman was transported to Wynn Hospital where her condition is critical.

The Sheriff’s Office is attempting to locate two residents who are unaccounted for.

Multiple fire departments responded to the scene, including Rome City, Stanwix Heights, Oriskany, Westmoreland, Floyd, Clark Mills, Clinton, Vernon, Verona and New London fire departments.

AmCare Ambulance Service also responded.

The Red Cross was on scene assisting displaced residents.

Rome Oriskany Road remains closed between Monument Road and Stanwix Avenue.
