GENESEO, NY — A Rochester woman faces felony weapon charges following an investigation that began with a September motor vehicle crash.
Brianna Akers, 28, of Rochester, was arrested Dec. 4 on charges of felony criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and felony criminal possession of a firearm.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a motor vehicle crash on Route 39 in the Town of Geneseo on Sept. 19.
During the investigation, a handgun was located at the scene.
Sheriff’s investigators determined that none of the occupants in the crashed vehicle possessed a valid New York State pistol permit and the handgun was not registered in New York State.
Investigators tracked the handgun from South Carolina to Virginia and then to New York State.
Sheriff’s Investigator Michael Wade made the arrest.
Akers was transported to the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention.
Akers was arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part at the Livingston County Jail before Village of Dansville Justice Kenney.
The judge released Akers on her own recognizance, as the offenses do not qualify for bail under the New York State Bail Reform Act.
