FALL RIVER, MA — Police arrested a man on firearms charges after he allegedly fired a gun from a second-floor apartment window on Dec. 6.

Officers responded to the 100 block of Dover Street for a report of a male firing a gun from a second-floor apartment window.

Witnesses reported hearing yelling outside and observed an unidentified male at a second-floor window shouting at a man in the parking lot before seeing a muzzle flash and hearing a loud pop coming from the window.

The male was later seen exiting the building, continuing to yell, and then returned inside.

Officers entered the second-floor apartment and met with the residents.

Inside were several individuals, including Matthew Vieira, 45, of Fall River, who generally matched the complainant’s description.

All occupants denied involvement or hearing a gunshot.

A spent shell casing was located on the sidewalk directly beneath the window identified by the complainant.

Vieira was detained and officers confirmed he did not possess a valid firearms license.

A search warrant was obtained and executed.

Inside Vieira’s bedroom officers located a silver and black .380 caliber firearm inside a laundry bag.

Vieira was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, possession of a firearm without an LTC/FID, possession of ammunition without an LTC/FID and improper storage of a firearm.

There were no injuries or property damage resulting from the incident.
