ST. JOHNSBURY, VT — Vermont State Police received multiple 911 calls reporting a rollover crash on Interstate 91 southbound near mile marker 133.6 on Dec. 8 at approximately 10:02 a.m.

Troopers were advised while responding that the vehicle’s occupants were trapped inside a 2021 Subaru Forester.

Troopers arrived on scene first and began efforts to extricate the operator, Malcolm Doak, 65, of Kirby, and the passenger, Carole Doak, 64, of Kirby.

Personnel from CALEX Ambulance and the St. Johnsbury Fire Department arrived shortly thereafter and successfully freed both occupants.

Both Malcolm and Carole Doak were transported by CALEX Ambulance to Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital as a precaution.

Both occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The vehicle was totaled in the crash.

Road conditions at the time included slush and ice.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle’s lack of winter tires contributed to the crash.
