NEWPORT CENTER, VT — State Police arrested a local man on a second-offense DUI charge following a report of a crash on Farrar Road.
Charles Hammond, 68, of Newport Center, was taken into custody at approximately 3:47 p.m. Sunday after police received an anonymous report of a crash.
The caller told police that Hammond was heavily intoxicated.
Troopers arrived at the scene and located Hammond and his vehicle.
Hammond had driven off the road but did not damage any property, according to police.
Following an investigation, Hammond was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
He was issued a criminal citation for DUI second offense and brought to a detox facility.
