NEW LONDON, CT — A convicted felon was arrested on felony firearm charges following a traffic stop Thursday evening.
New London Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Connecticut Avenue and Garfield Avenue at approximately 6:02 p.m. for motor vehicle violations.
During the stop, officers located a loaded firearm along with three loaded magazines inside the vehicle.
The vehicle operator, Edwin Gonzales Velazquez, 44, of New London, was taken into custody without incident.
Gonzales Velazquez was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of ammunition, weapons in a motor vehicle, operation of an unregistered motor vehicle and failure to carry insurance.
He was processed at New London Police Department and held on $150,000 bond pending his court appearance Friday.
The incident remains under investigation.
