MORETOWN, VT — A 22-year-old woman sustained minor injuries after her vehicle went off the road while attempting to avoid a deer.

Mary Johnson, of Graniteville, was driving on U.S. Route 2 near Sherman Drive at 7:55 a.m. Saturday when a deer ran in front of her vehicle.

Johnson swerved to avoid the deer and her vehicle caught the snow along the side of the roadway.

Her vehicle was unable to maintain control in the snow and drove over an embankment, coming to rest in a field below.

Johnson’s 2008 Lincoln MKX sustained major front-end damage to the bumper and windshield.

Johnson was screened by emergency medical services at the scene and reported minor injuries.

She refused transport by EMS and was later transported to Central Vermont Medical Center by a family member.

The vehicle was towed by E&S Towing due to disabling damage.

The roadway was cleared of any hazards.

Weather conditions were clear and the road was dry at the time of the crash.
