COLONIE, NY — A Texas man was arrested on drunken driving charges after police say he drove the wrong way on an interstate offramp and crashed into a school bus.

State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on the Interstate 890 westbound exit 9 offramp at about 3:45 p.m. Nov. 17.

Troopers determined a commercial vehicle driven by William Byrn, 59, of Jersey Village, Texas, was traveling the wrong way on the exit 9 offramp to Curry Road when he struck a vehicle exiting I-890 westbound.

Byrn fled the scene on foot following the crash but was located by troopers a short distance away.

He was arrested for driving while intoxicated and other vehicle and traffic law violations.

Byrn was transported to State Police Princetown for processing where he recorded a 0.22% blood alcohol content.

He was issued tickets returnable to Colonie Town Court on Dec. 8 and released to a sober party.

The vehicle struck during the crash was a school bus that contained two children and the driver.

No injuries were reported.
