Man arrested on DWI charge in Auburn

AUBURN, NY — A 45-year-old man was arrested on a drunken driving charge after a sheriff’s deputy observed his vehicle nearly striking parked cars and a building.

Matthew A. Weese, of Conquest, was arrested at 12:48 a.m. on Nov. 27 and charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, and other traffic infractions, according to Sheriff Brian Schenck.

A Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office deputy was conducting a traffic stop in the area of State Street and York Street at approximately 12:33 a.m. when the deputy observed an unrelated vehicle traveling through the Cayuga County Highway parking lot.

The deputy observed the vehicle nearly strike two parked vehicles and a building before driving through a grassy area on the property.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the deputy observed significant front-end damage and a flat front tire.

The damage was later determined to have been caused when the vehicle left the roadway at the intersection of North Street and York Street.

Weese was identified as the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle.

Through further investigation, Weese was determined to be operating the vehicle while intoxicated by alcohol.

Weese was arrested and transported to the Public Safety Building for processing.

He was brought to Cayuga County Jail for CAP Court arraignment after refusing to provide a chemical sample to determine his blood alcohol content.

Weese is due back in Auburn City Court at a later date.
