Man charged with assault in Ausable

AUSABLE, NY — New York State Police charged Marcell R. Branham, 51, of Keeseville, with assault 3rd and criminal obstruction of breathing/blood circulation on Dec. 3.

Troopers responded to Route 9 in the town of Ausable at approximately 12:01 a.m. on Oct. 9 for a report of a physical domestic incident.

An investigation determined that Branham and the victim were involved in a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation.

Branham allegedly pinned the victim down, placing his hands over her mouth and nose, and struck them multiple times, causing lacerations.

The victim was able to break free and seek help.

Branham fled the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival.

The victim was treated and transported to Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers actively searched for Branham, and on Dec. 3, he was located and transported to SP Plattsburgh for processing.

He was arraigned in the Town of Peru Court and released on his own recognizance.
