5 arrested on drug, firearm charges in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA — Five people face drug trafficking and firearm charges following a search warrant execution on Fort Pleasant Avenue.

Members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit, Emergency Services Unit, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department and Massachusetts State Police CINRET West executed the warrant at approximately 2:10 p.m. on Dec. 3 in the 0-100 block of Fort Pleasant Avenue.

Detectives had been investigating illegal narcotics distribution from the home for several weeks with Joshua Santiago as a suspect.

When officers executed the warrant, several individuals scattered to other apartments within the home.

Nine occupants, including Santiago, were detained.

Four were later released from the scene.

Detectives seized three illegal firearms, including one large capacity firearm, and loose ammunition.

They also recovered more than $6,600 in cash.

Officers recovered approximately 2,100 bags of suspected heroin/fentanyl totaling more than 42 grams and more than 155 grams of crack cocaine.

Joshua Santiago, 31, of Springfield, faces charges including cocaine trafficking 100-200 grams, heroin trafficking 36-100 grams, fentanyl trafficking 10+ grams, conspiracy to violate drug law, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, improper storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, firearm violation with three prior violent/drug crimes, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, armed breaking and entering daytime for a felony, and carrying a firearm without a license second offense.

Giovanny Guzman, 24, of Springfield, faces charges including cocaine trafficking 100-200 grams, heroin trafficking 36-100 grams, fentanyl trafficking 10+ grams, conspiracy to violate drug law, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, improper storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and armed breaking and entering daytime for a felony leaving a person in fear.

Alan Provost, 26, of Palmer, faces charges including cocaine trafficking 100-200 grams, heroin trafficking 36-100 grams, fentanyl trafficking 10+ grams, conspiracy to violate drug law, two counts of carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a loaded large capacity firearm on a public way, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, improper storage of a firearm, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, firearm violation with one prior violent/drug crime, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, armed breaking and entering daytime for a felony leaving a person in fear, and receiving stolen property less than $1,200.

Luis Hernandez, 23, of Springfield, faces charges including cocaine trafficking 100-200 grams, heroin trafficking 36-100 grams, fentanyl trafficking 10+ grams, conspiracy to violate drug law, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, improper storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, firearm violation with one prior violent/drug crime, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and armed breaking and entering daytime for a felony leaving a person in fear.

Stephanie Britt, 50, of Agawam, faces charges including possession of a firearm without an FID card, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and improper storage of a firearm.

Santiago has prior firearm, fentanyl and cocaine distribution convictions.

Hernandez has a prior cocaine distribution conviction.

Provost has a prior conviction for assault and battery on a pregnant victim.
