SPRINGFIELD, MA — Four police officers are being publicly recognized for their professional response to an alarm at a children’s hospital.
Springfield Police Superintendent Lawrence E. Akers announced the recognition of Officers Jayden Rivera, Jared Kennedy, Jose Ruiz and Ricardo Rodriguez-Martinez.
The incident occurred over the weekend at Shriners Children’s Hospital when a doctor on call entered the locked building to treat a 2-year-old patient, inadvertently triggering an alarm.
Two officers initially responded to the alarm, questioned the doctor appropriately, and departed.
When security personnel arrived and became distressed about the situation, four officers returned to the scene.
The doctor, who contacted Akers to commend the officers, said they remained calm and respectful to all parties involved.
“Those four officers performed their jobs so professionally. I was very impressed and wanted to thank them,” the doctor wrote in a message to the superintendent.
