BOSTON, MA — Members of the Youth Violence Strike Force and the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit arrested a man on drug trafficking charges following a traffic stop Wednesday night.

Lance Gerald, 38, of Boston, was taken into custody after officers observed what they believed to be a drug transaction at a gas station on Tremont Street.

At about 9:13 p.m., officers saw a motor vehicle abruptly turn into the gas station.

Two individuals approached Gerald as he sat inside the vehicle, according to police.

Officers observed what they believed to be a street-level drug transaction and approached one of the individuals as he walked away from the area.

The individual was stopped and officers recovered a plastic bag of cocaine.

The vehicle was then seen leaving the gas station and officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of 41 Smith Street.

Officers ordered Gerald out of the vehicle and placed him in handcuffs.

Officers recovered two medium plastic bags of crack cocaine, drug packaging materials and a digital scale from inside the vehicle.

During a motor vehicle inventory search, officers also recovered three cell phones and approximately $1,115 in U.S. currency.

The drugs were later weighed and determined to be approximately 100 grams of crack cocaine.

Gerald is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of trafficking of cocaine and distribution of Class B subsequent offense.
