CORTLAND, NY — A fugitive wanted in connection with a Pennsylvania homicide was arrested after jumping from a second-floor window and fleeing from police.
Malachi Allah Darden, 21, of the Bronx, was taken into custody at gunpoint on Dec. 1 following a foot pursuit through multiple backyards.
The Cortland Police Department responded to a disturbance call at 37 Clayton Avenue at approximately 2:16 p.m.
While en route, officers were notified that Darden may have an active warrant out of Pennsylvania for murder.
Additional units were dispatched after the warrant was confirmed.
Upon arrival, officers surrounded the residence.
Darden jumped from a second-floor window and fled on foot, leading officers on a chase for several blocks.
He suffered a minor leg injury during the pursuit.
Darden was wanted by the Scranton Police Department in connection with a homicide that occurred on May 14, 2024, on the 1800 block of Jackson Street.
The U.S. Marshals Service Middle District of Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force had been actively seeking Darden for 19 months, offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to his arrest.
Darden was known to frequent the Bronx and has ties to Lackawanna and Luzerne counties in Pennsylvania.
He has been charged locally with resisting arrest and being a fugitive from justice.
The warrant from Magisterial District Number 45-1-05 in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, confirmed charges of criminal homicide, murder and nonnegligent manslaughter.
The Cortland Police Department was assisted by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department and the Scranton Police Department.
