Man arrested for illegal deer shooting in Tonawanda

TONAWANDA, NY — A Buffalo man was arrested after allegedly shooting a deer illegally on Ellicott Creek Road on Nov. 28.

Muhibul H. Anher, 59, of Buffalo, was charged with reckless endangerment in the second degree and discharging a firearm within town limits.

Officers responded to a report of a suspected shooting around 6 a.m. on Nov. 28.

A witness reported seeing a dark-colored SUV parked along Ellicott Creek Road near several deer and heard a loud bang before seeing a deer fall to the ground.

The witness said the vehicle later returned to the area and two men got out to drag the deer inside.

Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

Police found a deceased buck on the floorboard of the back seat and two additional deceased does in the back of the SUV.

Officers also seized a shotgun linked to the shooting.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has taken over the investigation regarding violations of state environmental conservation law.

Anher was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Town of Tonawanda Justice Court on Dec. 18 at 2 p.m.
